Château de Pontarion

Guardian of the centuries in the heart of the Creuse

Guardian of the centuries, witness of mankind, I greet you.

Nestled in the heart of the authentic landscapes of the Creuse, the Château de Pontarion has stood, noble and discreet, since the 15th century. A medieval fortress, it has seen five centuries of history unfold, of struggles and renewed peace, of lordly splendor and more modest times when only the wind and the river came to disturb its stone silence.

Listed as a Historic Monument , it belongs to this common heritage of which France is jealous and which the world envies us. More than a building, it is a witness of stones and memory, having crossed the ages with the same dignity as its flamboyant peers, but with the endearing sobriety of the rural residences of Limousin.

From its medieval ford to the bridge that crosses the river today, Pontarion Castle has seen pedestrians, peasants, horsemen and carriages, right up to the vehicles of our time. Everyone still stops to contemplate it, to capture in a snapshot the emotion of these old walls and this stone gaze turned towards eternity.

CHATEAU DE PONTARION

A suffering heritage, a call to generous hearts

Alas, nature, so benevolent usually, can sometimes be cruel. In March 2023, a tornado of rare violence ripped open my roof and damaged my ancestral framework , whose ancient wood had braved the centuries. If the villagers were able to repair their homes, the Castle remains open to the sky, exposed to the ravages of time.

Today, it suffers in silence and finds itself at a crossroads: irremediable decline, or the rebirth offered by those who, attached to heritage memory and beauty, choose to reach out to this part of our history.

Together , let us breathe new life into this witness of times gone by.

A Call for Preservation

Since 1936, the Château de Pontarion has belonged to my family.

Having entered through a passion for stones, it was saved in extremis from ruin by my great-uncle. Since then, generation after generation, we have taken care to preserve this witness to history, this piece of common heritage.

On March 9, 2023, a tornado severely damaged its medieval roof structure. Today, I appeal to all those who share a love of heritage: your support helps preserve it.

No roof without you.

Together, let us breathe new life into this witness of time.
