Become a Patron of Château de Pontarion

Contribute to the preservation of a historic castle.

The Château de Pontarion, located in the Creuse department at the heart of Limousin, is a heritage jewel that has withstood the centuries. Rich in history, it embodies both the memory of the region and the potential for a future focused on culture, education, and heritage transmission. But this fragile heritage now needs help to be preserved, restored, and passed on to future generations. By becoming a patron, you play an essential role in this mission.

Why become a patron of a castle?

Supporting the restoration of a castle is much more than a simple donation. It is a commitment to the preservation of French heritage. It is believing that old stones still tell an essential story, that they can become living, shared places full of meaning once again.

Becoming a patron of the Château de Pontarion means:

  • Contributing to the safeguarding of an iconic historic monument of the Creuse

  • Valuing the architectural and rural heritage of the Limousin

  • Supporting a local, concrete, transparent, and ambitious project

  • Taking part in a human, cultural, and civic adventure

Château de Pontarion restauration project

The Château de Pontarion is not a static museum: it is destined to become a place for meetings, exchanges, artistic and cultural creations. But before that, essential work must be undertaken:

  • Restoration of roofs and timber frames

  • Consolidation of walls and foundations

  • Securing certain parts of the château

  • Progressive rehabilitation of interior spaces

Every contribution, no matter how modest, helps us take another step forward. We are building this project with method, passion, and transparency, and each patron is kept informed of the progress of the work.

Who can become a patron of Château de Pontarion ?

Patronage is open to all:

  • Individuals who wish to support a local or national project and give meaning to their generosity

  • Companies committed to values of social responsibility, cultural transmission, or local roots

  • Foundations and institutions concerned with the challenges of heritage preservation

Each patron’s profile is unique, and we tailor our discussions according to your expectations, capabilities, and desired level of involvement.

Transparency on Funding and Call for Donations

Why a Call for Sponsorship?

The Château de Pontarion, listed as a French Historical Monument, was severely damaged by the tornado of March 9, 2023. Its roof was torn off, and its medieval framework, dating from the 15th century, was badly weakened.

A vast restoration program is now underway, under the direction of heritage architect Christophe Gillet (DLAA.Archi).

While the technical aspects are under control, the success of the project now depends on financing. To respond to the many questions raised by visitors during the European Heritage Days, here is a clear and concise overview of the different funding methods involved.

Public Subsidies

Owning a listed monument comes with obligations.
It is through the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC) that subsidies are examined, based on specific criteria. For the Château de Pontarion, DRAC Limoges has granted support covering 20% of the cost of the works.

Sponsorship via La Demeure Historique

Sponsorship is a framework regulated by the State, highlighted notably after the fire at Notre-Dame de Paris.

For the Château de Pontarion, an official convention (n° 2025-801-R) has been signed with the association La Demeure Historique, authorised to collect donations.

In practice:

  1. La Demeure Historique receives your donations and pays invoices within the limit of the funds collected.

  2. Each donor (sponsor) receives a tax receipt, allowing them to benefit from a tax reduction (66% for individuals, 60% for businesses).

  3. A thank-you card is sent to each sponsor. For donations over €500, the sponsor’s name may be inscribed on the “donors’ wall.”

  4. Members of my family up to the 4th degree are excluded from this scheme.

Pourquoi pas une fondation ou une cagnotte en ligne ?

Why Not a Foundation or an Online Fundraiser?

Most national foundations focus on non-protected monuments, which excludes the Château de Pontarion (listed as a Historical Monument).

As for online fundraising platforms, the collected money is considered taxable income for the project owner. To avoid any ambiguity, we have chosen to rely exclusively on La Demeure Historique, ensuring transparency and security.

Estimated Restoration Budget

  • Total cost of works: €481,480

  • DRAC subsidy (20%): €99,296

  • Self-financing (20%): €99,296

  • Sponsorship target (60%): €288,888

In the event of a shortfall in the sponsorship target, the difference will have to be covered by the owner-manager.

By way of example, six months after the tornado, emergency waterproofing works (temporary steel roofing) were undertaken at a cost of €60,000 (DRAC subsidy: €10,000; self-financing: €50,000).
